Class teacher: Mrs Harrison Place

Mrs Gillespie covers the class teacher’s PPA time on Thursday mornings.

Class assistant:  Mrs Banciu

Support assistant: Mrs Smith

P.E. in the hall   Thursdays and occasional Mondays

P.E. kit  – white or blue ‘aertex’ shirt and royal blue P. E. shorts. Trainers and tracksuits are not required for these sessions.

Please ensure all items of clothing – jumpers, shirts, ties, P.E. shorts etc. are clearly marked with your child’s name. The children need a change of shoes, that they can put on themselves, to wear inside school.

Play and stay   Parents are invited to join us on Tuesday mornings until 9.30 am for ‘play and stay’. This is an informal session which gives parents the opportunity to spend a little time in the classroom joining in activities and games, or reading stories to the children.  There will be a ‘question of the day’ for the children to do as they enter the classroom and then they can go to an activity of their choosing.

Home support   Please help your child read their reading scheme books and key words. They will bring home two books that they have chosen from their reading colour band and these will be changed once a week. As there is not a set day for your child to change their books please ensure they bring their book bags to school every day. Also please read the ‘Helping your child to read’ leaflet given at the start of the year.

There are so many other ways you can support your child’s learning at home. Helping them to learn the names and sounds of letters, careful counting of everyday objects and reading numbers to at least 20 are just a few. Your child will also bring home from time to time a ‘homework challenge’ to support their literacy and numeracy.

Outdoor Provision   The children will access the outdoor foundation stage play area daily, come rain or shine, so we ask that that they always have suitable outdoor clothes and footwear. Please note that for safety reasons the children are not allowed to use the area unless supervised by staff and it is therefore out of bounds to everyone before and after school.

Home time    Should you need to send anyone else to pick up your child you must let us know beforehand.

Food and drink  The children are offered a piece of fruit every day as well as milk or water to drink. We also bake and prepare different food dishes from time to time so ask parents to contribute towards the class fund for the purchase of ingredients. A voluntary contribution of £1 each half-term will cover expenses, and will be gratefully received!

Please feel free to approach Mrs Harrison Place or any other members of the reception team if you have any thing you would like to discuss. We are available most days after school.
